They could be used for this, although they work better as an under-layer or wearing indoors.
The ManyMonths brand is more "rugged" and can be worn outdoors, without an additional layer. They are 100% wool and don't feel quite as soft as the Hocosa initially, but with washing and wear, the fibers soften.
